Ive recently moved to Turangi and am enjoying the beautiful scenery here. The Tongariro river runs through which is a popular place for trout fishing, so Ive been out doors painting when the weathers good, and capturing some lovely scenes of fisherman, my husband being one of them. He hasn’t had any luck yet catching one. Its been pretty cold too as we had a recent dumping of snow in the Tongariro National park and lots of rain. But it certainly is a lot quieter here than Auckland. The traffic is few and far between which is nice. Im going to be putting some smaller paintings into our local gallery here -Pihanga Gallery.
Painted from a sketch I did in our local Park.
I was out for a walk one late afternoon, the
light was very strong, I paused to see the fishermans
silhouette against the bright sky.
The meandering Tongariro river can become
very full and swift after rain. You can fish for
Brown and Rainbow Trout. They can be quite a
challenge to catch too.
Not far out of Turangi I found a quiet spot to
paint next to a stream. There was an old shack near the bank
which didn’t look liked it had been used for a while, so in this
painting I changed that by adding the chimney smoke. It
brought the painting to life.
